Profile of Tanahun Chamber of Commerce & Industry
1. History:
The history of Tanahun Chamber of Commerce & Industry begins
at Bandipur, the village beautifully located on the mountain
top. Bandipur was an initial district capital of Tanahun. It
was also a trading and financial hub in the mid west Nepal.
People from Dhading and Gorkha in the east, Pokhara, Syangja
and Baglung in the west and Manang & Lamjung in the north
used to come to Bandipur to trade their goods.
Being one of the biggest trading hubs in the region, local
businessmen saw a need of an organization that would
integrate all the business associates, promote business
activities and deal with problems and challenges in business
field. Therefore in 1967, with active involvement of few
businessmen and social dignitaries, Bandipur Byapar Sangh
was founded.
In 1968, the government of Nepal decided to move District
Headquarter to Damauli. As a result, most of the businesses
sifted to the placed closer to the highway like Dumre,
Bimalnagar, Damauli & Narayanghat. Bandipur Byapar Sangh was
directly hit by the migration trend, so the Chamber was
remained idle until it was moved to Dumre in 1974. Bandipur
Chamber got a new life after it moved to Dumre. In the mean
time Damauli was growing quit rapidly. Being a district
headquarters, all the important government offices were
located there. As a result few members of the chamber mostly
from Damauli, proposed to move the Chamber at Damauli.
Meanwhile in 1982 its name was changed into Tanahun Chamber
of Commerce & Industry. Eventually, it was decided to move
the chamber to Damauli in 1988.
