An idea of
forming a merchant association in Pokhara was initially
conceived by an enterprising group of thirty nine business
people in 1951(2008 B.S). With the inception of Pokhara
Merchant Association in 1955 (2011 B.S). the dream of the
enthusiasts was subsequently materialized. Keeping pace with
increased scope of activities, the name of the association
was changed into Pokhara Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI)
in 1979 (2035 B.S.) Over the years, PCCI has become a
dynamic and result -oriented forum of trade , industry,
tourism and environment including health , education and
infrastructure development in Kaski district. Though PCCI is
a non
-profit making private sector representative organization of
business community, it has made a significant contribution
to economic, social, cultural and educational development of Kaski district in particular and economic welfare of the
country in general.
The
following examples provide an indication of scope of the
Chamber's activities and its contributions to socio-economic
development of Pokhara and its outlying areas.

Trained more than 4000
business executives/staffs and entrepreneurs in business
management and craft training in Pokhara, Tanahun, Lamjung,
Baglung and Nepalgunj;

Provided Advance Training in
Germany
to thirteen Nepalese craft workers/entrepreneurs in the
field of jewellery, auto mechanics and fashion designing
and bakery.

Provided business and market information to more than
3000 organized and walk-in clients;

Conducted more than a dozen programs to strengthen
Chambers of the Western Development region;

Promoted Nepalese handicraft especially of Pokhara
region in Germany
by exhibiting the products in the fair and exhibitions
held there in;

Organized more than 10th exhibitions in Pokhara
including one mega event "Pokhara Festival-1995"
and "Industrial Trade Fair 2003".

Contributed to establish several educational
institutions in Kaski district including Pokhara
University;

Arranged out-country study
tour for presidents of the Chambers of the Western
Development Region, Executive Members and General Members
of PCCI;

Produced Business Handbook of Kaski District;
-
Prepared Proposal to Improve Municipal Solid Waste
Management & Recycling in Pokhara.

Launched Cleaning Campaign in main city area of Pokhara in
people's participation.
